Comely Banks Sports Pavilion, Melbourne, VIC

Cardinia Shire Council recently opened the Comely Banks Sports Pavilion in the suburb of Officer. The new pavilion features unisex change room facilities for both players and umpires, a kiosk and canteen facilities as well as a fully integrated community space and external covered area. The new facility will service four rectangular sports fields along with a multi-purpose cricket practise facility.

Project Design Brief

Designers wanted to ensure that no run off from the hardstand areas of the new building could transgress onto the surrounding sporting fields. The surface drainage system and its elements had to be carefully specified, so patrons and spectators could easily move around the public space safely.

ACO's Solution

  • KS100 sloped system, KlassikDrain with Grey Plastic Intercept Heelsafe® Anti-Slip grates.
  • ACO provided designers with site specific hydraulic performance data to ensure adequate drainage.

Benefits

  • The 0.5% built-in slope in the KS100 system allows the new pavement to be constructed as flat as possible, yet enabling sufficient runoff to the outlet of the channel.
  • The grey coloured plastic grates blend with the adjacent concrete surround and
    – are compliant to AS1428.1 & AS 3996 for wheelchair and walking cane safety.
    – meet AS 4586 for slip resistance.
